In order to post messages to the Shine On! service at ctucc.org, you must register to participate. It's important that we know that a real person, and not a computer set up to abuse this kind of program, wants to engage in conversation here.
Those who do not register are still free to read the messages posted by others.
To register, click the "Register" link in the top button bar above, at right just below the words "CT UCC: Shine On!" On the next page, you'll agree to the rules of the Shine On system. Note that the moderator(s) will promptly remove posts that do not adhere to the standards of the service, and may remove users as well.
Click the applicable link below to agree to the terms and continue to the registration information screen.
Here You'll be asked to enter a user name. This can include spaces, so your own name will work just fine. Your email address is required. A confirmation will be mailed to it, to which you must respond before your account will be activated, so make sure it's correct. You'll enter your password twice in order to make certain that our system thinks it's what you intend it to be.
Below that, you're asked for the authorization code. This code is available in the heading to this forum, and also on this page:
http://www.ctucc.org/aboutsite.html
The code is "ucc@50" (without the quotes).
Requiring this code prevents most automatic spamming attempts, so it is important.
Below that is another anti-spammer device, the confirmation code. Enter the letters and numbers as they're displayed in the image above.
Below this, all information is optional; provide it if you wish, and leave it off if you prefer. You can include various instant messaging and web addresses as well as some words about yourself. You can also create a "signature" to be automatically appended to your posts (you can see mine below).
In the Preferences section, you can prevent your email address from being displayed, be notified when somebody sends you a private message or replies to one of your posts, and even change the color scheme. "BBCode" is the set of commands that can be used to add formatting to your messages. There are buttons to help you add it in the message posting window. Smilies are the little graphics like this one that add a little emotional content to your post.
When you've entered all the required information, all the optional information you care to provide, and set your preferences, click the Submit button. You'll be notified that an email has been sent to you for account activation.
Open your email. You'll find the username and password you created, which you should keep in case you forget them. You'll also find a link back to our web site that will activate your account. Click it, and you'll be notified that your account is now activated.
After that, feel free to create your first message to the Shine On world.
If you have any problems or questions, please feel free to ask them in this or the Support and Help forums.
